Welcome to Arete’s home on the web. What began as a love dogs and dog sports grew into a hobby and a passion. I have been involved with dogs and dog sports for well over 20 years, in which I have taught obedience classes as well as put advanced titles on my own dogs.
I breed only seldomly and only when I feel I can make a positive contribution to the breeds involved. All of the dogs that are bred from must have the appropriate medical clearances as well as being sound of mind and body. Temperament, and trainability have as high a priority as does health and longevity. I feel very strongly that the dogs must conform to the standard as set down by the breed parent club, but should ALSO retain the instinct to perform the function for which they were originally bred. WE strive to produce pups that have the potential to do anything the new owners wish to pursue with them, as well as be healthy happy well-socialized pets.
Our dogs and cats are first and foremost our family pets and live in the house with us. Our pups, and Ragdoll kittens when we do have them, are raised in the house underfoot and are well socialized to lots of sights and sounds. They are socialized with people, especially children, cats and dogs. Our pups are introduced to grooming, crate training, potty training and very basic obedience manners. Our kittens will be box trained and self grooming before they are released to their new homes. Our pups and kittens are sold on a spay/neuter contract. Special arrangements may be made to potential show homes.
Arete: Ancient Greek term for which there is no literal translation. It encompasses the virtues that ancient Greeks strove for: honesty, integrity, athleticism, sportsmanship, dignity, intelligence, courage. It is that something special that comes from deep within one’s soul, that extra 10% in a 110% effort.
